Take a unique off-road adventure to discover the gems of Wanaka on the Misty Mountain Explorer Tour...
Park up the car and let us do the hard work as we go off the beaten track to explore Wanaka by comfortable 4WD Ford Ranger.
Have your camera at the ready as we explore the road less traveled, crossing streams and rivers to visit a bunch of incredible locations which include Lake Wanaka, Mount Aspiring Valley Road, and much much more. You'll also visit a local waterfall, walk a suspension bridge, take part in a fly fishing experience and visit the Rippon vineyard where you can purchase a cheeky wine tasting if you are a fan of wine!
This epic tour is for small groups ensuring you get a personalized experience, away from the crowds.

Great trip beautiful scenery we would not have experienced without this tour, we took some amazing photos of the mountains & waterfalls. Doug was very knowledgeable on the area and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Wanaka.
Doug is the most knowledgeable guide. We didn't have great weather the day we were booked with him and didn't have time to re-schedule but on a cold rainy day he did his darnedest to give us enough of a tour of the misty mountains. As the weather wasn't agreeable that day we couldn't see much of the mountains nor go walking/fishing, but he will tell you everything about the area and take you down back roads exploring parts you'd never get to see in a "normal" vehicle. And he even spotted a pair of Kea's so close to the road- we were able to capture great photos of. He is super friendly and will tailor your guide to what you want to do, I can only imagine what it would be like on a nice day. That being said, I'm not sure what better way we could have spent our time on a super cold and rainy day than driving through the backroads of the Misty Mountains.
Thanks Tatiana, it was truely Misty mountain day and still things to see and do! I enjoyed the day as much as you!
I booked the tour in January 2023 and it turned out to be private tour for just the 2 of us. It could not have been any better. Doug has all the local knowledge about the mountains, plants, history etc. I only highly recommend Misty Mountain Explorer.
Thanks Susanne, it was a great day!
Doug drove us all the way out to the valley in his big comfortable car and told us all about the area and his love for it on the way there. We got to experience the mountains in all of it’s beauty on a rainy day in all the comfort you can imagine. Would highly recommend!
Thanks Toon, it was truely a misty mountain day! Doug

Great experience!!
Thanks Douglas for this amazing Tour!! One of the best things Ive done so far in NZ. Amazing landscape in the Matukituki-Valley, great views of Lake Wanaka and the surrounding mountains. Douglas is a very funny, kind and interesting host with many stories about the landescape and the animals.
